The Legacy of Hanalei and Rip Curl
Once a school room for keiki; Rip Curl Hanalei is now a collaborative venture between local owners and a surf brand famous for its support and sponsorship of the many talented young surfers who grew up surfing Hanalei Bay. The store is located in the historic Hanalei School Building. Built in 1926, the state of Hawaii was planning to demolish the school to make way for a new school on its site, but the building was saved in 1987 by commercial developers Gaylord and Carol Wilcox moving it about half a mile down the Kuhio Highway to its current location at Hanalei Center.
